Erica Castro

Erica Castro is no ordinary political spouse standing in the shadows of her husband.  Just as Julián Castro brings a generational shift to City Hall, his wife is part of the new generation of political spouses, supporting her husband's agenda but firmly rooted in her own identity as a mother and her career as a teacher.

As a mother, teacher, wife and member of several boards, Erica definitely knows a few things about being an individual and staying true to one’s self.  As First Lady of San Antonio, Mrs. Castro works diligently in the community with a focus on the importance of education and a drive to empower our young ladies of today through education, excellence, and influence.

Erica Lira Castro is a 1996 graduate of Harlandale High School. In 2001 she graduated from UTSA with her undergraduate degree and in 2005 with her masters in educational leadership. She started teaching in 2002 and now serves as a math specialist for Northside ISD. She has three brothers and lost her father to lung cancer in 2000. Although he and her mother were divorced, he still played a major role in her life. She and Julian Castro have been married for two years and have a baby girl, Carina, whom is the center of their lives.
